Macchiareddu Composting Plant

The project concerns the efficiency improvement and upgrading works of the composting plant of the Macchiareddu Environmental Platform, part of the larger plant complex known as the “Multipurpose platform for the disposal of urban wastewater, urban waste, and hazardous and non-hazardous special waste,” located in the Macchiareddu Industrial Zone, in the Municipality of Capoterra (CA).

The intervention involved a plant with a total treatment capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year, divided into 40,000 tonnes of Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (OFMSW) and 10,000 tonnes of lignocellulosic structuring fraction.

The efficiency improvement works were designed with the aim of optimizing the performance of the composting process, improving the energy and operational efficiency of the plant, and ensuring full compliance with current environmental regulations, consolidating the platform’s role as a strategic reference for integrated urban waste management in the territorial context of southern Sardinia.
